Is it permanent?

Our Handset offers extremely long lasting results however no form of laser or IPL hair removal is permanent, even at the clinics. Just be careful when companies claim “permanent” hair removal, as this term technically means that there will be no regrowth of hair for 6 months. To maintain long-term results we advise using our Handset once a week for 8 weeks, then just once every few months for maintenance.

How long will it take before I start seeing results?

Most users start to see a reduction of hair in just 3-4 treatments using our handset, with complete results after 9 treatments. However, results can vary from person to person.

How often do I need to use it?

We recommend using your Handset once a week for the first 8 weeks. After this period we recommend using your handset once a month, for 2 months or until satisfied. If you would like to maintain hairless, smooth skin, we recommend using your handset once every 2 to 3 months, or as needed.

Which hair removal methods can I use between treatments?

Between your treatments you should only shave when required. We recommend never waxing, plucking, or epilating as these hair removal methods remove the entire root, which is critical if you wish our Handset technology to work.

Does it work for all Skin Tones?

Our handset is suitable for all but the darkest skin tones. Please refer to the Fitzpatrick skin type chart to know if the smoothsilkyskins Handset is suitable for your skin.

Does it work for all hair colors?

On Most! Our Handset works on both black, brown and dark blond hair. Light blond hair has a small amount of eumelanin and pheomelanin, and therefore it won't absorb IPL and laser energy. Grey and white hair don't have any of the melanin types and so won't absorb the light energy.

Is it safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Although no evidence stating that IPL has negative effects on pregnant or breastfeeding women exists, we still cannot recommend using our handset if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, just as a precaution.

Is it safe to use over freckles or moles?

Does it work on sensitive skin?

Our handsets have been designed to be suitable for at home use, so is gentle on skin. This means that is suitable for sensitive skin types too! However, for maximum security, it is advisable to use the Handset only up to intensity level 3.

Are there side effects?

When using the handset as recommended, side effects are rare. Redness and swelling is the most common side effect from IPL, which will quickly subside after treatment.

Is it normal for there to be a slight burning smell while using the handset?

Yes, this is completely normal. As the light energy is heating the hair, you may smell a slight burning but this just means there may be some hairs that have not been shaved. Please ensure that you have prepped the skin correctly, and that the skin is completely shaved before starting your session.

How do I clean my Handset?

Cleaning of the handset is advised after each use. You can use an alcohol wipe, or any antibacterial product to clean down the handset and the light window after treatment. Ensure your handset is powered off, and not plugged in before doing so. You should then store the handset in a cool, dry place after use (once the handset is completely dry).

What is the recommended age to use the Handset?

We advise that users of our handsets are 16 and older.

Do I need to shave before using the handset?

Yes, you should shave the desired areas before using your handset. A close to skin shave is best recommended. The goal is for the light energy to reach the hair follicle as quickly as possible, so shaving beforehand is essential to achieve the best results. The hair follicle does need to be in tact for IPL to be effective. This means no waxing, plucking, threading, epilating etc.

Which hair removal methods should I use between treatments?

Between treatments you should only shave when required. You should never wax, pluck, or epilate as these hair removal methods removes the entire root, which is what absorbs the light during the treatment.

Are there any reoccurring costs?

No. This product is a once-off purchase. There is absolutely no need for replacements or refills.

Can I use IPL over tattoos?

You should not IPL over tattoos. The light energy will be more attracted to the pigments in the skin, rather than the melanin in the hair which can cause a reaction in the skin and blistering. You should always go around your tattoos.

Can I share my handset with someone else?

Yes you can but you should not do this for hygienic purposes, this item is for personal use just like your toothbrush, you wouldn’t share your toothbrush with someone else, would you?
